Montessori Philosophy - Okemos Public Montessori embraces the Montessori philosophy of education within a public school setting. Our classrooms are multi-age spanning PPK (3-5 yr olds), lower elementary (1st & 2nd grade), and upper elementary (3rd & 4th grade). Within these classes the students are encouraged to be independent, self-motivated learners. Another important part of the Montessori philosophy is to allow the students freedom in their learning choices while promoting responsibility with that freedom.
Staff - All staff is dual certified by both the State of Michigan as well as holding a Montessori certification.
Paraprofessionals - Because our classrooms are multi-age each teacher works with a trained paraprofessional to support student learning.
Diversity - We are a culturally diverse student body which includes students from Russia, Korea, China, India, England, to name a few.
Student Clubs - Opportunities for learning extend beyond the classroom through student clubs such as Culinary Club, Chess Club, Student Council, Morning News Team, etc.
KEEP/Enrichment Child Care - In addition to before and after care for all students, our program for the 3, 4, and 5 year olds is sseen as an extension of the PPK classroom utilizing the Montessori philosophy for learning.
Family Activities - We are fortunate to have an active PTO and staff which work together to support our staff, students, and their families through many activites including; Back to School Family Potluck, Auction/Carnival, Grandparents' Tea, International Potluck, Ice Cream Social, Holiday Sing-a-long, etc.
