More about Mrs. Akers
Cori Akers attended Central Michigan University for her undergraduate degree in Sociology with a Social and Criminal Justice concentration. She went on to work in juvenile residential treatment at Vista Maria and with Catholic Social Services of Oakland County's foster care program before earning her Masters Degree in Counseling from Oakland University.
Mrs. Akers joined the OHS Counseling Department in the fall of 2015 and has enjoyed working on a counseling team again. Prior to Okemos, she worked as a school counselor at Dansville High School, a school counselor for Berkley School District, and as a child and adolescent mental health counselor at the Center for Behavioral Health in Bloomington, Indiana. Through her Okemos counseling caseload, she works with students in 9th grade.
Mrs. Akers grew up in Holt and moved away from the Lansing area for ten years before returning in 2008. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son, Finnegan, who attends Kinawa Middle School.
Two truths and a lie:
1. Mrs. Akers has been a vegetarian for the past 15 years.
2. Prior to getting married, Mrs. Akers completed several triathlons and a marathon.
3. Mrs. Akers loves watching Project Runway, even though she knows nothing about fashion.
Meet with Mrs. Akers to find out which one is not true.
